When it rains it Pours!

I have finally caught up my blog again. About every 2 weeks it seems i make like 5 posts all on the same day. Don't worry i will try to get better. So I just wanted to let you all know to keep scrolling and read ALL my new posts to get caught up. I think there are 4 new ones.

Also i am sorry there are like no pictures of Erik and I...it's becuase we really havent been doing a whole lot lately but school and work. And when we do go do something i usually take my film camera for my photography class, and we dont have a scanner. So there are my excuses.

Happy Blogging! :)

Your Gonna Miss This

country or love it? Either way you have to love the stories that the songs tell. Here is a song by Trace Adkins that i absolutely love! I think it describes life perfectly. I try to remember what the song is teaching in my daily life. It's really hard to not be always concerned with the future. It's important to plan for our future but not focus on it so much that we miss the present. It is so important to enjoy the here and now.I am constantly reminding myself this. It's the only way to be happy. When i stop and think about it i know that i really am going to miss this time in my life. So i am content for now...at least while this song is playing! :) Here are the lyrics below and if you actually want to listen click the link below.

She was staring out the window
Of their SUV
Complaining, saying,
I cant wait to turn 18
She said, "I'll make my own money"
And I'll make my own rules"
Mama put the car in park
Out there in front of the school
And she kissed her head
And said 'I was just like you"

You're going to miss this
You're going to want this back
You're going to wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're going to miss this

Before she knows it
She's a brand new bride
In her one bedroom apartment
And her daddy stops by
He tells her "It's a nice place"
She says "It'll do for now"
Starts talking about babies
And buying a house
Daddy shakes his head
And says "Baby just slow down"

Cause
You're going to miss this
You're going to want this back
You're going to wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're going to miss this

Five years later
There's a plumber
Working on the water heater
Dogs barking, phones ringing
One kids crying, one kids screaming
She keeps apologizing
He says "They don't bother me.
I've got two babies of my own.
One's 36, one's 23.
It's hard to believe..."

But
You're going to miss this
You're going to want this back
You're going to wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're going to miss this
You're going to miss this
Yeah you're going to miss this

Steamer and Mashed Potatoes.

No...dont worry i know not to cook mashed potatoes in my vegetable steamer. Two different stories in one post. First of all i was at DI the other day just browsing and i stumbled upon this great vegetable steamer for only $5.00. I was so exciting. My mom has one and makes really yummy cooked vegetables in it. It looked like it had never been used either...believe me i am really cautious about this kind of stuff. So today for sunday dinner we enjoyed a plethora of steamed vegetables. yumm yuumm.
So also for sunday dinner i made my favorite: the classic roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy. It was very delicious, but i cant make mashed potatoes without lumps. It's impossible. If i cook them for a while then they become way to soupy of mashed potatoes. But most of the time mine are full of lumps. Help!? Any tricks on not getting lumps out of my mashed potatoes?

Skinny Jeans

Erik has been out of town a little bit lately going to Dental School interviews. So i have had a chance to do some major girlfriend time. It's been really fun hanging with my married girls around the quad and also a lot of my single friends from High School who are out here going to the Y. So with these single friends i always feel way behind in fashion. These girls have the cutest trendiest clothes. When i go over there i end up just playing dress up and letting them doll me up with all there exciting clothes. So one of the latest fads that i am sure you all have noticed is the skinny jeans. I cant decide if i like them or not. I think they look great on some people. And they look pretty good on me especially in some sexy heels. But...i have yet to buy a pair of my own becuase i just dont know if i can pull it off. So i have always admired my "older, cooler" cousins fashion...so i am turing back to all of you to ask what you think. Do you think skinny jeans can be worn by old married women? Do you think they are too trendy? Dont worry about offending me in any way...if you hate them let me know. I just cant decide. Skinny jeans...in or out?

p.s. i really really hate them on boys...so that's not even up for discussion.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?....

GREAT!!!!!! Erik and i decided this summer to plant our first garden together. So in a small apartment with no yard to call our own we just stared easy with a nice big tomato plant. We got a huge pot and started it from seed. (that was a mistake...no one told us you could buy a starter plant.) It's turned out wonderful except here we are in September and we havent had a single tomatoes yet. But hey this was a learning experience and i am just proud that i could grow a tomato plant from a seed and it now have green tomatoes on it. I think we will get a few batches before it gets too cold. This tomato plant has been like our little baby this summer. We love going out and watering it and watching it grow. Sometimes i even find myself talking baby talk to it. haha. So here are some shots of all the little starter seeds and now what it has become. I am very proud of my green thumb.

Peaches and Mr. Quaker

So On Thursday's i don't nanny and i don't have school so i catch up on things at home and hang with some girlfriends doing crafty and homemaking things. haha. I love these ladies so much. I want to be them when i grow up they are amazing!! So today i borrowed my aunt's Dehydrator and i started drying my 69 cents a pound peaches. I love dried peaches. I put them in little snack baggies and just take them for lunches etc. all year round and they are so Delicious. So i was doing a little bit of that today. And then also i showed up at my friends house and she is like the best bargain/coupon shopper i know. And not just save 50 cents here 50 cents there she gets amazing deals! So today she conjures up this plan of using a sale at one store but using another stores Ad coupon and getting some additional coupon off line..putting it all together and you get 20 Quaker Oats products (oatmeal, granola bars etc.) for $15.00 people!! Holy Cow! It was awesome i left the store feeling like i had just robbed a bank. It was crazy. On the bottom of my receipt it said my total savings today was $76.43. Can you believe that? Wow...it should be illegal. Ok so i am sure there are tons of bargain shoppers out there thinking what an idiot..she is just discovering all this but this is great, really i am in love. So tomorrow We are going to go get chicken for $1.30 a pound and then can it. I am so excited to enter this homemaking world. :)

Goals

Erik and i have recently made a family plan. A list of everyday and monthly goals that will help us spiritually, emotionally and physically. We have checklists and calendaring sessions that help us schedule our busy lives to find time for the things we find important. This has been so good for our marriage, our home and our growth individually. I feel more accomplished as i make time daily and monthly to get the things done that i need to. Some examples of our daily goals are things like: leaving no dishes in the sink before bed, reading together, start getting ready for bed earlier, no shoes left in the front room, etc. Each night we go down the list and check things off. Some of our monthly goals are like: the 2nd week of the month to go to the temple, the 3rd week to find some service to do, ___day go on a date, this day go over our budget, etc. Anyways this has just been a good system for us that has brought us closer and more focused on preparing a righteous household and establishing a good family foundation. I would just like to share a scripture that we kind of based all this off that i really love and maybe you can find some inspiration from as well.
"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of God." D&C 88:119

Back to School

This Fall both Erik and I are again attending School. This is Erik's last year before Dental School. He has a pretty packed schedule just trying to get all his credits in before next spring. And since life doesn't always work out the way you planned it i have decided to go back to school to do what i now call the "super mom" major. lol. I decided that i missed school and wanted to still learn and develop new skills. I am taking the following classes:

Photography
Into to Interior Design
Aerobics
Sewing
7 Habits of Highly Effective people

Although these may all look like a lot of cop out classes can i just tell you how much i am learning things that i love and can use in my day to day life. I love going to school now. I feel like all the skills i am attaining from these classes i can use as a wife and a mother, and as a fall back if i ever need or want to work. I have already learned so much and most of all i enjoy it. This has been so good for me. Along with my Aerobics class at school i am also taking one on the other days of the week at night with some friends at BYU. It's so awesome to work out and feel in shape and have fun. The one class does some Zumba which is apparently like the newest hottest thing in aerobics. I LOVE IT! It's like Latin/African tribal dancing and man it's a work out! My sewing class is amazing i have already learned a ton and have cut my fingers twice within 5 min. of each other with the cutting wheels. My interior design class is where my passion is and if nothing else will help me know what to look for when buying a home. As i grow old and have many children i hope to always find time for myself to learn and discover and develop talents. I think it's a really good thing for any person to do at any stage of life to keep them sane and just growing in so many ways.

HOLA!

Wow...it's been a while i know. I have no excuse. lol.

Erik and i were so lucky to get to go on a Cruise in the middle of August. We had an amazing time. We went on the 4 night Baja Mexican Cruise. It was such a good get away. It was so nice to just relax on the boat and explore Mexico and Catalina (an island off California). Our trip was complete with snorkeling, a beautiful hike, hanging on the beach, eating yummy mango with chili pepper, bargaining at the open air market and seeing the famous blow hole in Ensenda. The ship itself was amazing and beautiful. (this was my first cruise ever btw.) We saw some shows, got some sun, danced, ate, ate and ate!!! It was so fun. Here are some shots from our trip!
Our boat: The Carnival Paradise. We caught the ship in Long Beach California. This was in Catalina California

The Delicious Mango!

Okay so funny story with this picture. So we are walking down to see the blow hole and i am just looking at the ground walking and we hear this guy walk by us and say "Go Cougars!" (Erik is wearing a BYU shirt) So i look up to see the person and guess who it was? MY COUSIN MICHAEL!! haha I am like..uhhh Michael...cousins?!! And then he finally realized who we were. Charlie and Michael were just down in Mexico and we run into them? Whod'a thought? It was so funny. So we had them take this picture for us. lol.
