This was our little families first trick or treating experience so we had to go all out right? Well we heard the place to be is Hanover street right in the heart of Richmond. Another perk of being in the branch...getting the lowdown on cool city stuff that we wouldn't know otherwise. We heard it was going to be busy but we had no idea what we were in for! Our goal was to get there at 5, well with school complications we made it there by 5:30 and by that time it was already a zoo! I mean this is a big deal. News camera's are rolling, the streets are blocked off to cars, parking's a nightmare, the sidewalks are packed and the houses are DECKED OUT! My blood pressure rose a bit when I realized that I would have to almost wait in a mini line at each house to get some candy, but I tried to push that natural impatience out of me and enjoy the night. And really...I totally did! Our goal was not to get tons of candy it was to enjoy the night and the atmosphere. We couldn't have asked for a better first trick or treating experience with Lucy!
It's really nice the people are all standing right on the sidewalk so you don't even have to go knock on the door! We loved trick or treating with Lu! She was so cute and got so many compliments on her costume, although she was mostly called a "he". Who can blame them, i guess a bear costume is kind of boyish. Anyway, it was fun to hear her say "thank you" at each house, she started not even needing a prompting. It was cute. After about 4 houses we set her down to walk for a little bit and she stood there in protest and started begging and pointing towards her candy bag. ha! I am sure she was like..."hello, why are we just putting it all in that bag, come on! Let me have some!" We realized to keep her going she needed to reap some immediate benefits from this work out. ha! So we pumped her with M&M's. And she was happy as a clam!
Looking at this now I realize how kind of disturbing this is, and Lucy even looks a little scared. But I assure you it wasn't all this creepy. There was scooby doo and cat in the hat and really cute stuff too! ha! I wish i had gotten more pictures! Also- I don't know if you can see but check out that HUGE bin of candy! Some people had actual trash cans just full! Our friend lives on this street and she said they went through 2000 pieces of candy!?! Wow!
Look at this huge pirate ship they put up in front of there house? so cool huh!?
Eventually by chance we met up with our friends the Miles and went around with them for a little bit. But, unfortunately our night got cut short because it started raining about 45 min. into it. Bummer! But especially at Lucy's age we were okay to stop. Good thing Lucy was nice and warm and dry!
Later that night we let her have some more candy and she was in heaven. And don't even get me started on how much I love having a kid that trick or treats! Mmmm mmm! We spent the rest of the night passing out candy which Lucy loved! Every time there was a knock at the door she went crazy! It was a great Halloween with our little munchkin!

I have to admit, I'm a little jealous. Trick or treating in our neighborhood sucked and Liam wanted nothing to do with it. Trunk or treating was ok, but again, Liam was not cool with asking strangers from candy when he knew mommy had a whole bag of it at home and not enough trick or treaters to take it all. lol. I think we should go to your neighborhood next year!
Suburban girl loves the city, what?
I just caught up on all your posts! I see you are using your photography skills quite well. I love some of the bear photos in the post below this one and the pumpkin patch photos are so awesome! Great job! The trick-or-treating looks like tons of fun, but what really got me was the post about your grandmother's fire place. Seriously, way to make pregnant woman cry ;) But thank you for sharing.
I had no idea you were on Hanover that night, too???!!! I wonder why we didn't see you? It's not like there were any people there! Hahahahahaha!
It looks like a really fun place - but waiting in line at each door? Your Dad would die! You have some of your momma in you. Looks fun.
Looks likea blast! One big party! Oh, and thanks for the little e-vite greeting photo of Lucy- so cute!
We had so much fun there too! I'm glad we were all crazy enough to try it out.
Wow! That looks so fun! Don't worry, Hudson got called a "girl" quite a few times. I didn't have the heart to correct them, especially to the one 80 year old woman.
I am sure you didn't hide your excitement for the candy very well! I am glad you shared with Lucy!
