We have only been camping together once since we have been married and it was with my family who did everything and provided everything. We have been so nervous to go own our own since we know nothing on the subject but have been dying to go because the idea sounds fun.
So, we enlisted our friends the Laytons who are expert campers to "take us" camping. It was awesome!
I think I am converted. Maybe because Cory did all the work (ha! Thank you) but we seriously had a blast!
We just went one night and camped near Crabtree Falls about 40 min. Southwest of Charlottsville. Cory did some research and just found a little camp spot that was free! It was along the Appalachian trail and by a little river. It was beautiful!
We roasted Hot Dogs for dinner and of course did Smore's.
We did it cookie style! Pick your flavor of Mallow and pick your flavor of cookie!
This little girl loved it! And much to our surprise she WIPED out. We thought it might be a battle to get her to go to bed especially without a pack n play but we tucked her into the tent- said goodnight and didn't hear a peep out of her. This is what we found (she had take over our spots in the tent) when we came to go to bed.
This little girl has stolen my heart. She is so adorable. I kept taking pictures of her at night with the flash and she COULD NOT keep her eyes open. Poor thing! I got one in the morning with her signature opened mouth smile!
Our rugged looking children in the morning. They found the river and headed right for it doing what kids do best! Throwing rocks! ;)
And their rugged looking Mommies....
Cooking omelets in a bag! Genius!
Look at this awesome Bridge we had to cross to get to our campsite.
It was all shaky and cool!
In the morning we headed to Crabtree Falls to do a little Hike.
Beautiful families...amazing friends.
The kids were such troopers. It was an uphill hike and even I was getting winded but the kids were so tough! Lucy liked using her magnifying glass looking for bugs and leaves.
Sometimes we insisted she get carried by Daddy.
And at some point Will decided he was so tired he began to crawl! No joke...it was hilarious!!!
I love my family!
The views were unbelievable! I love this time of year!
Look how precious this little boy is!
The weaklings (aka everyone BUT the Laytons) headed down a little early.
We had a little lunch in this cool cave.
Then we headed home.
Check Camping off our bucket list!
It was an awesome weekend!

How fun! We went camping last year when Lily was about Lucy's age and it was awesome. We tried again this year and way over estimated our parenting abilities - Noah was crying and crying and we finally packed up and left around 10:00 and made the 2 hour drive back into the city. Fail. Maybe next year :)
Awesome! We are going camping this week. Our first time taking H - hopefully we don't have to pack up and drive home because of him.
We miss camping at Pocahontas State Park. So worth the $25/night when the awesome water park is open.
Sounds perfect!! I love camping and hopefully now that we have a tent we will go more often. Hey we have a 10 huge tent..we should make use of it together...hahaha hopefully when we live in the same state again!!
