When I found out that our stake was going on Trek (a simulated experience of the pioneers who crossed the plains) and that they were in need of Ma's and Pa's we actually volunteered to go.
I mean- I went twice as a youth and loved every second of it!
I mean- I went twice as a youth and loved every second of it!
Everyone thought we were crazy!
And now I see why.
Ha! No, we really had a great time. But in a very different way than as a youth. First of all it's a lot harder to sleep on the ground being this old! And, it sure was a lot more work being in charge of these kids and being responsible for food and shelter (no tents-tarps and rope with no trees close by.) when we are camping idiots. But in the end we loved the experience. We loved the kids in our group and loved the spirit that was present.
Ma and Pa Fox
Our Family.
Ethan, Ryan, Jackson, Brandon, Us, Maddie, Heather, Alexis, Preston, Hannah.
Our Family name...ya the girls won out. Kind of a pitiful name.
Me and the girls. I really loved chatting with them, teasing them, and just having fun.
They are some great girls.
mmmm ok. We hadn't even left yet and this is on the ground!!! Oh man. Biggest spider ever!
All loaded up and getting ready to head out.
I was grateful our kids were so helpful and did what you asked them to with smiles.
The boys especially were handy since some of them were more camping savvy than we.
The womens pull is always a challenge. But this time I felt like it was near impossible. We only had 4 very small (and maybe slightly weak) girls and I seriously felt like I was pushing that handcart up that very steep hill all by myself. It was miserable actually. But we did it, and I have the sore muscles to prove it.
My shoes got a bit muddy!
It took the boys about 3 hours to get a fire going the first night, it was a little worrisome.
Zions Camp was a party. We loved playing games, playing in the river, watching the boys wrestle, having our food cooked for us and having the Talent Show. There were a lot of laughs and good times!
It was hard to leave Lucy and it was a lot of work, but the experience was totally worth it and one we will never forget. It was so fun to go on trek with the very same boy i crushed on at 14 and walk the same trails we did then. It was pretty special. Love that man!

Not only is that spider big, it's covered in babies!!
You are a rock star! Those kids were lucky to have you, camping skills or not. :)
Seriously that spider is nasty and would have freaked me out FOR SURE!!! ewww! That really is so cool that you got to do it again together! I am so glad you got to help the girls on the women pull I am sure they were very grateful too. I can't wait to hear more about it. We are so excited for you guys to come here!
Wow!! Ma and Pa Fox look so cute together - one hot couple!! I'm sure your kids loved you- It is totally different being a leader than being a youth on one of these things!! Love the pictures and hope to hear more stories of your experience! Love you both!!!
