I am thinking of getting this carseat. Not in this color scheme...but I LOVE the Combi stroller and I am not sure anyone can change my mind on that...but unfortunately only the Combi car seats will fit in them. And the only thing I am worried about with the car seat is that weird bar at the bottom. It is called an Anti Rebound bar. What the heck is that? Why don't other seats have that? I have never seen that before. But, whatever...the big question is: Do you think that will make it a lot harder to get a baby in and out of it? Convenience and ease is my biggest thing, and that bar intimidates me. I really don't want to regret this buy. Please weigh in!

Yeah, that's stupid.
I've never seen that bar on any other car seat before. I guess it might be useful when the baby is small, but once she starts to grow it might be harder to pull her in and out, she might even get her feet stuck in it. They do grow a lot in a very short amount of time. Try looking in people's reviews on their website (Combi, Target, Babies R Us), what they like and don't like, if there is a common problem or just a great buy. That was something that helped us decide on a lot of things before we bought them. We went with Graco, because the car seats fit any different style of Graco stroller (someone had given us a stroller before we got the car seat-- they are different styles/colors) and they make them up to 32-35 lbs. Most car seats hold up to about 20-22 lbs and some babies tend to be chunkier than others. Hyrum used his until he was about one and he was a big baby. Good luck! Hope this helps.
My car seat BASE has a big bar like that but I've never seen one on the actual seat. I'm not sure what I think about it!
because i was curious about this weird bar thing, i just read all the reviews for the combi carseats with a bar on the babiesrus website. nobody even MENTIONED the bar being an issue. though, a lot of them did say the carseat was really difficult to get out of the base and that it was kind of heavy. but news flash: they're all heavy, especially once there's a baby in it haha so i wouldn't worry about that.
so if being able to put the carrier in the stroller is important to you (and even if you don't use that feature a lot, at least for the first month or two, it is nice to be able to just transfer the whole carrier over from the car to the stroller or whatever) and nothing is going to change your mind on the stroller, you pretty much have to get the carseat with the bar. but on the bright side, it apparently didn't bother anyone else...its just a weird safety feature.
also it comes in great colors.
whew, long comment. sorry.
Um, that is kind of weird. Jon would have ended up kicking it all the time. I do love the Chicco system, we still use the stroller to this day. Good luck!
I think it would bug me, I wouldn't get it. maybe you should go with your second choice stroller?
I've never seen that before. Is it for an easier carrying method or for extra baby foot safety? :)
Thanks everyone! I am so confused still! I called Combi and she said that it is a saftey feature designed to take the impact in an accident vs. the seat. I think you are supposed to have it touch the drivers seat so it takes the impact of a crash or something. She said there have been no compliants about it making it difficult to get the baby out, and in all the reviews I have read about it, no one really mentions it. It's weird. So i cant decide! I asked if the baby's feet can slip under it and get caught...she said it goes up and out enough that that would not happen. I am a little skeptical...but I really want the combi stoller!!! ahh!!!
Nik- I don't think that it would be a problem. Usually to get the baby in and out you will put the handle down anyway, so I don't think the bar at the bottom would be hard to get around. Now if you were ever trying to get around BOTH the bar and the handle, that would be a nightmare! But picture it with the handle down... you just put baby straight down in the seat, not up from the bottom. HTH!
I hate, hate, hate my combi stroller! It's 4 years old, hopefully they've improved it but it's so short. I kicked the wheels all-the-time, and the basket is lame-o, so small, nothing hard on the bottom so it sags to the ground if you put ANYTHING in it. And the wheels constantly get stuck side-ways. Just hate that thing! I never use it anymore.
As for the rebound bar. They are supposed to be really good, so I wouldn't let that detract you, but I hate the stroller so I'd never buy it!
I love the Maclaren umbrella strollers. They are fantastic. So easy to use. I bought the cheapest one..on sale, and it's still great. I use the Graco Snugrider (snap-in stroller) with the car seat early on and love it! It's light weight, has a great basket and is easy to use. That's my 2-cents.
I love my combi. It's not as heavy and durable as others, but you want light, right? Anyway, I don't think the bar would be a problem, it looks pretty high.
We have a Combi car seat and I have had ZERO problems getting her in and out. In fact, it's so easy that I can actually do it one handed and barely have to even get into the back of the car. Our car seat doesn't look like the one you pictured, though. But same brand.
Oh, okay, I just saw the bar that you're talking about. Nope, never seen that before. Our combi seat doesn't have one of those. Seems like it would hurt the kid if they hit it during a wreck, but who knows.
I wouldn't get an unsusual carseat. Thta's me two cents. It looks like it might be little more difficult to get the baby in and out of. Em got a peg perego carseat and she hates it. I can't be put in a car without the base and yours looks like it might be that way too. That is very annoying b/c if you ever are traveling (even locally) you can't just buckle the carseat in. You have to take the base. Graco is the most popular I would think for a reason. I am sure there are other great carseats too. i just stick with what is affordalbe an with what works.
I don't know, I think its fine. It looks really high so it doesn't seem like it would be annoying to get the baby out. I would actually buy it because of the bar. See, if you watch any videos on car seats in accidents the back of the seat (where the babys head is) gets flipped up. So the bar would stop the car seat from going flat against the seat of the vehicle and squishing the baby. It looks really safe to me. I am always terrified of what would happen to the baby in the car seat in an accident. Thats why I never leave the handle of the car seat up when we are driving.
thats my 2 cents ha ha
Our Britax carset and stroller combo had the bar on it too. We liked it and had no problems getting him out...He grew out of it too quick though...then again my kids are 20 pounds by the time they reach 5 months old ;) lol.
DId you ask if the bar was removable? That way you can use it as you like. I personally would buy the stroller I like and the carseat I like. I only used my combo like once or twice. Most stores have carts so you just need the carrier and most little ones transfer from carseat to stroller pretty comfortably so I just left the carseat in the car. Over all it is important to be happy with both.
